Great experience food was awesome we enjoyed the happy hour menu. I only stumbled upon this due to another full reso, the whole fish caught my attention, it’s because my kids and I share many great memories eating whole fried fish. Fun for sharing with friends.
View on Google ↗⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Karina’s Mexican Seafood Cuisine in Gaslamp is on another level. I honestly can’t even express it properly. This place is a pure gem — hands down one of the nicest, fanciest spots in downtown San Diego. First of all — just look at the pictures. It’s stunning. But here’s the crazy part… it tastes even better than it looks. Every plate is a masterpiece. The presentation? Flawless. The flavors? Authentic, bold, perfectly balanced. You can tell the chef truly cares. Now let’s talk about Sunday Happy Hour… WOW. Masterpieces for $10?! That’s not a deal — that’s a blessing. They could easily charge triple and it would still be worth it. The quality, the vibe, the atmosphere — pure paradise. I’m not exaggerating. The energy in the place is beautiful. Elegant but welcoming. Lively but still refined. And the staff? Absolutely amazing. Professional, warm, attentive. God bless the entire team and the chef — they are doing something special here. Bottom line: If you’re in Gaslamp and you don’t stop at Karina’s, you’re missing out. Amen.
View on Google ↗If you are heading to Karina’s Cantina in downtown San Diego (Gaslamp Quarter) specifically chasing an octopus taco, you are looking for their Pulpo Enchilado Taco. Karina's is a staple for vibrant, Sinaloan-style Mexican seafood, and their take on octopus is a departure from your standard grilled street taco. Here is a breakdown of what to expect from the downtown location’s octopus taco experience. The Flavor Profile The Pulpo Enchilado taco isn't just tossed on a grill with salt and lime. It features tender octopus sautéed in a rich, slightly fiery red chile sauce with butter and garlic, served on a corn tortilla with melted cheese. It is then topped with: Fresh diced tomato Cabbage (for that essential crunch) Cilantro A drizzle of spicy mayo The Verdict on Taste: The combination of melted cheese and seafood (essentially a gobernador style but with octopus) works incredibly well. The red chile sauce packs a flavorful punch without being melt-your-face-off spicy, and the richness of the butter and cheese is perfectly balanced by the crisp cabbage. Texture & Execution The biggest risk with octopus is texture—nobody wants to chew on a rubber band. Karina’s generally executes this well; the octopus is braised and sautéed to a tender, meaty consistency. Because it is chopped and cooked in the enchilada sauce, it absorbs a ton of flavor, making every bite savory and juicy. Ambiance & Value The Price: At around $8.00 for a single taco (or $15 for two), it sits firmly in the "sit-down Gaslamp dining" price bracket. It’s a hefty, premium taco, but you are paying downtown prices. The Vibe: The downtown location is high-energy, colorful, and can get quite loud, especially on weekends or during happy hour. If you want a casual, quiet taco, this isn't it. But if you want a premium seafood taco paired with a strong Cadillac margarita in a lively atmosphere, it hits the spot.
View on Google ↗Eaten here twice so far, and both times I've had a great experience. Both times I've eaten here there was no wait for a table, and there were multiple seating options available. Only came here for lunch during the week, so maybe that's why it wasn't crowded and our food and drinks always done out very quickly (usually within like 15 minutes). Waitresses are helpful and friendly and the inside seating is truly a unique vibe with the decor, plants etc. outdoor seating is pleasant as well. We were told that the upstairs seating is for larger parties. It would have been nice to eat up there though. Highly recommend the aguas frescas, you can tell they are made fresh not from a powder mix. The seafood enchiladas were delicious, as were the fish tacos. I also HIGHLY recommend the ceviche, it's some of the very BEST I've ever had. The salsa rojo that comes with the chips is VERY HOT🔥be careful, I'd recommend some horchata while eating it.
View on Google ↗We came here for the CincoDeMayoSD Bar Crawl and we had a wonderful time! The atmosphere was very pretty and our drinks came super quickly after we ordered. The service was wonderful especially considering we came as a large group. I would come back again and I highly recommend this place to everyone!
