Waterbar is a great Pacific Beach restaurant with an excellent second-story view overlooking the boardwalk and ocean. Funny enough, the first time I came here I entered from the boardwalk side and honestly did not even realize there was a separate main entrance on the east side of the building. You walk in from the beach side, head upstairs, turn right, and suddenly the whole place opens up. The layout is really interesting because there’s this massive central bar anchoring the middle of the restaurant, then additional seating and another bar area farther inside. The whole design feels built around social energy without sacrificing regular dining space, which honestly fits Pacific Beach perfectly. As the author of The Grant Colson Thriller Series, I’m always noticing how restaurants use layout and atmosphere to shape energy, and Waterbar definitely understands the social side of Pacific Beach. I grabbed one of the window seats overlooking the boardwalk while eating, and it’s hard to beat the people watching from up there. Between the beach traffic, sunset light, and ocean views, the atmosphere does a lot of the heavy lifting. The food was excellent, and the staff was super nice throughout the visit. Funny enough, places with strong coastal atmosphere like this also probably influenced parts of the Maui Desire Romance Series more than I consciously realized while traveling around beach communities. This feels much more like a true Pacific Beach hangout than just another restaurant near the ocean.
View on Google ↗I went to Waterbar for dinner and had such a great experience. The food was really good, especially the sushi. It was fresh and flavorful. The spicy fish tacos were also so delicious and definitely a highlight. What really stood out was the service. It was fast, attentive, and everyone was exceptionally kind. We actually arrived just about five minutes before closing, and they still welcomed us in without hesitation, which I truly appreciated. Overall, it was such a pleasant experience with great food and even better hospitality. I would definitely come back.
View on Google ↗Let’s just start with our waitress, Storey, who is absolutely amazing! So kind and sweet. I had no clue what I wanted to order and she took the time to describe the meals I was considering and had exceptional patience with me! So accommodating and friendly! On top of the great service the food and cocktails were beyond delicious! If you’re in San Diego this is a must! Not to mention the ocean view is breathtaking! 😍🤩
View on Google ↗One of the best dining experiences in San Diego. Waterbar has an amazing oceanfront location — fresh breeze, great music, and a vibrant but relaxed atmosphere. It feels upscale without being over the top. Service was excellent. Friendly, attentive, and everything came out quickly. The food was on point. The Caesar salad was fresh and flavorful, fish tacos were outstanding, and the sushi roll was very well done. The wine selection was also great. Overall, 10/10. Definitely a place worth coming back to.
View on Google ↗Had a great experience here while visiting from out of town! Michael was our server and was so friendly! The food was delicious! The oysters were from Baja and so tasty. The open windows and view of the beach was also great. Highly recommend this place for good food and a beach vibe.
