Hennessey's Tavern

This place has been on my list for a while. I love Irish pubs, and I actually celebrated one of my birthdays in Ireland not too long ago, so I was especially excited to finally check it out. I also noticed they offer a complimentary entrée on the Thursday of your birthday week, which honestly made it the perfect excuse to go. There’s a ton of seating options here. You can sit inside, outdoors by the fire pit, or in one of several different rooms. Our server was awesome, really attentive, and had great recommendations. I ordered: • Steak & Shrimp: this came over mashed potatoes with a side of spinach. The steak was huge, cooked perfectly, and seasoned really well. Everything on the plate was delicious. We hung out by the fireplace, had some drinks, and just enjoyed the vibe. They also run great weekly specials. I believe Tuesdays are buy one burger, get one free, and Thursdays they have $7 smashburgers that looked massive when I walked by. Overall, this place has a really fun, welcoming energy. My friend from Scotland tried the Guinness and approved, which says a lot. It’s surprisingly hard to find a good Guinness in the States, and they nailed it here. Definitely will be back.

Amazing food and service, we originally intended to just pop in for a drink but ended up ordering dinner and a dessert. Needless to say it was well worth it, and we will absolutely be coming back here.

Taylor served us during our first visit, her service was horrible that night. I had to get up multiple times to ask for water refills at the bar, condiments or even my receipt after we paid and were waiting to leave. She would walk past us multiple times and not acknowledge if everything was ok, outside seating wasn't even busy, it was only 8:45. When she brought our food she was quick to walk away and didn't ask if we needed anything else. Good thing Sabrina and Austin from the bar were super nice and were able to help us with our needs even though the bar was a bit busy. Food and everything else was great, not letting one person ruin this place for us.

Great indoor/outdoor dining, overalll good vibe, live music, and awesome food. we came for their famous burgers 🍔 but ended up with entrees recommended by the locals...Mac n cheese is flavorful, salmon was perfect, and tomato soup with grilled cheese was a hit too 😋

Hennessey’s in La Jolla is the place to be on St. Paddy’s Day—lively, festive, and full of great energy. But honestly, it’s just as perfect any day of the year. Whether you’re popping in for a casual bite, meeting friends for a drink, or settling in to watch a game, it always delivers that easygoing neighborhood pub vibe. The menu has plenty of favorites, but Smash Burger Thursdays ($7.55 including fries!) deserve a special shoutout. Juicy, flavorful, and seriously satisfying—it’s the kind of weekly special that keeps you coming back. Great food, great drinks, and a fun atmosphere right in the heart of the Village—Hennessey’s is always a good idea. Sláinte!
