If you visit, definitely stick with the burger over the bowl. It’s a great environment to catch a game with a group of friends, and since kombucha is their specialty, it is absolutely worth a try. Despite it being a Friday night, the service was surprisingly fast and efficient. It is a solid spot for a lively evening out when you want good drinks and a reliable meal.
I was really excited to try the Brazilian food here, but unfortunately the picanha skewer plate was a huge disappointment. As a Brazilian, I was expecting something closer to traditional Brazilian rice and beans, especially since the menu mentions black beans with pork protein. Instead, the rice and beans tasted nothing like Brazilian food, and the seasoning was very different from what I expected. The picanha itself also lacked the simple coarse-salt flavor that makes Brazilian barbecue so special. Overall, the entire plate was underwhelming and not something I would order again. On the positive side, the cheese balls were absolutely delicious and probably the highlight of our meal. If I come back, I would stick to the appetizers. The restaurant itself is excellent: very spacious, clean, family-friendly, and with plenty of large screens for watching sports. The atmosphere is fantastic, especially for game days. Great venue and appetizers, but the Brazilian main dishes need improvement to meet the expectations they create. 🇧🇷 Food: 2/5 🧀 Cheese Balls: 5/5 📺 Atmosphere: 5/5 🧹 Cleanliness: 5/5
Located in the Mission Valley Mall. Novo is a great place to watch sports, soccer, basketball, UFC, football. Big screen TVs all around, food and drinks are delicious. wait staff does lack a bit if it's busy. Large outdoor patio, great for sunny San Diego days, but will get a bit cool as the sun sets. dogs welcome out here only, they have a small play area for kids in the back of the patio.
I'm so disappointed in the food. The service was fantastic and sitting outside was very pleasant. At 22 dollars for the salmon, I think they could have made the plate look better. The brussel sprouts were drenched in bacon, and the mashed potatoes were metallic tasting. A bit too confident in their food to not put salt and pepper on the table. Last visit we sat at the bar and we were very happy to hear they make most foods and not just use Sysco but it could use an improvement in flavor and presentation. I love supporting local spots but they need to be good too. I'm probably not coming back.
I came to Novo in Mission Valley to watch the Mexico vs. England World Cup match. I arrived during the Brazil vs. Norway game, paid the $20 cover charge, and watched the match with several friends. While I was there, I also purchased two drinks. After the Brazil game ended, everyone was told to leave the venue, stand in line again, and pay another $20 to come back in for the Mexico game. When I questioned it, I was told they had announced that everyone would have to leave and pay another cover charge for the next game. The problem is that nobody told me this when I paid the initial $20 cover charge. Had that policy been explained upfront, I could have decided whether I wanted to stay or not. Announcing it after customers have already paid is not the same as informing them before they spend their money. I also spoke with the manager, who told me I wouldn’t have to pay a second cover charge and that he would let me back in. Unfortunately, he walked away and never came back, so I was left outside with everyone else. I understand businesses can have their own cover charge policies, especially for major sporting events. My issue isn’t necessarily the policy itself—it’s the lack of transparency and the poor follow-through. If you’re going to charge separate cover fees for each game, customers should be clearly informed before they pay the first cover charge. The atmosphere was great, but this experience left me disappointed, and I hope management improves how they communicate their policies and treat returning customers.
